David has been painting his entire life. Ask him, and he’ll tell you he completed his first oil painting – a seascape -- in second grade!

That passion led him to hone his skills throughout high school and into college where he studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Earning a BFA in painting in 1980, David began his professional career focusing on large landscapes and figurative subjects. Group and solo shows followed throughout the country, including Baltimore, San Francisco, various Rhode Island towns and New York City. Gaining a reputation for small still-lifes and portraiture while in New York, David also became recognized for his Vista Landscape scenes capturing broad views of the ocean communities in Rhode Island where he and his wife maintain a home. His portraits and landscapes hang in many private homes and in select spaces.

Working primarily in oil on fine linen, David has experience in all types of artistic mediums – including pencil, pastels and charcoal. David works in both plein air and from detailed sketches of his subjects. Meeting with clients to ensure he captures likenesses at their most beautiful, David spends time talking with people to understand their perspectives and interests before beginning his work. Preliminary charcoal drawings advance ideas and provide clients an early view of the finished pieces.

Commissioning a painting for your home is a matter of personal choice, and David works to ensure the highest quality and truest representations desired. David can be reached here should you be interested in hiring him to complete a piece for you.
